Legendary Guitarists JIMMY PAGE, JEFF BECK Reunited For Photo Session, Interview
July 8, 2004Legendary rock guitarists Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck were reunited for an exclusive photo session and an in-depth interview by Mojo, to be published in the magazine's next issue, set to hit the streets on July 15.
In addition, the magazine comes with a free CD titled "The Roots Of Led Zeppelin" and which gathers 15 tracks that inspired Britain's most legendary rock band.
Old school friends Page and Beck travelled to South London to shoot with photographer Ross Halfin. They then repaired to his house in Sutton, Surrey, close to where they’d grown up to conduct an in-depth interview with acclaimed Mojo journalist Charles Shaar Murray (author of "Crosstown Traffic", "Boogie Man: The Advetures Of John Lee Hooker").
During the course of the afternoon, Jimmy and Jeff recalled their first brush with music and each other, their time together in THE YARDBIRDS and their rise to '70s superstardom with LED ZEPPELIN and the JEFF BECK GROUP, respectively.
"Jimmy and Jeff had a great time together to the point where the photo session was in danger of collapsing under the sheer weight of their laughter!" comments Mojo Editor-In-Chief Phil Alexander. "You can see how much fun they had in the photos that Ross shot. They’re like nothing I've ever seen of the two of them. Very relaxed, very informal. And it's the same with the interview. You feel like you’re ear-wigging on a conversation between a pair of old pals. Which, come to think of it, is exactly what it is."
The 15-page feature with Page and Beck also includes a contribution from the third of The Holy Trinity of British guitar players — Eric Clapton. He picks his Top 10 essential blues albums and admits his debt to the likes of B.B King, Muddy Waters et al.
The feature itself also includes Mojo's Top 20 British Guitar Players and a guide to the music of Page, Beck and Clapton by none other than AEROSMITH guitarist Joe Perry.
In addition, the new issue of Mojo includes an exclusive report on the Mojo Honours List awards ceremony which Jimmy Page also attended and scooped two awards. Also in attendance were James Brown, Arthur Lee, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, THE CLASH, Ray Davies, Roger Daltrey, TELEVISION, STING, Morrissey, Roger McGuinn, and more.
